Macon pest control

We are Georgia's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Macon raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Macon pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Macon Raccoon Control Tip: Do raccoons swim?
Raccoons can swim. In addition to being smart, raccoons are very good swimmers, being able to swim at an average speed of five kilometers per hour and can remain in water for a very long time. In fact, raccoons actually love water. In rural areas, raccoons prefer to live close to water bodies like lakes where there is a large amount of food like insects, fishes, small animals, and a steady source of fresh water. Around the lakes are trees that provide protection and shelter for the raccoons, aiding their hunting too. Their sharp claws help them hunt at an incredible speed.

It is rare but normal for homeowners to find raccoons in their swimming pool for a long time without being noticed. Also, raccoons can become really nervous in water because the weight of their body can be up to 21 lbs., and they are not able to stabilize their body inside flowing water. Raccoons do not swim for the fun of it. Instead, they swim to catch fish and other sea animals, or maybe they are swimming away from a predator. In order to easily find their way out of the water, raccoons attach themselves to objects floating on the water or close to the water like logs, tree branches, and rocks. Raccoons can also stand and crawl in water.

Generally, male raccoons are heavier than female raccoons, and both sexes swim faster during the spring season. During winter, raccoons do not stay near water. Instead, they hibernate temporarily. The bodies of raccoons are built to withstand fast-moving water while swimming. Raccoons can stay underwater that is five feet deep, and they have a breathing mechanism that enables them to hold their breath underwater for several minutes. Their skin is covered with 85% fur, making it easier for them to swim in very cold weather conditions, but their fur weighs them down when immersed in water because it is not waterproof. During the winter season, the thick fur of raccoons enable them to trap heat, and they are able to store the fat gathered during the spring and summer seasons. So, they can survive without food during winter.

Having raccoons in your pool can cause a lot of issues. Raccoons are known to wash their hands or food in water sometimes, and if they get really comfortable in your pool, they'll definitely defecate in it. Your pool will become a personal latrine. If you have raccoon feces in your pool, it could cause severe illnesses when ingested. Their poop often contains eggs of the worm Baylisascaris procyonis. This roundworm parasite is dangerous to humans if it is ingested in large quantities. It causes severe neurological illnesses. The presence of chlorine in the water doesn't kill the parasite found in raccoon roundworm eggs.

What to do if you have raccoons in your pool
  • If your pool is infected by raccoon feces, you need to backwash the filter as well as drain the pool.
  • Replace the filter material and wear disposable gloves while doing so.
  • Get rid of the old filter material, the disposable gloves, and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after cleaning.
  • When your pool is not in use, ensure to keep it tightly sealed.
  • You can set humane raccoon traps (raccoons are intelligent and emotional animals) also do not drown the animal. Instead, relocate the animal at least ten miles away from your home so that they won't find their way back to your property.
  • It is also smart to install a deterrent. Raccoons walk on steps and poo in the shallow areas of the pool. So if you make the steps inaccessible, then the raccoon will stay out of the pool. You can get toddler fencing installed around the steps or use chicken wire or razor wire. Another easier method is using lots of nails to create spikes on a flat board and placing them on the steps when the pool is not in use, with the spike placed upwards.
It is better to hire professionals to get rid of the raccoons because raccoons are very brazen with people, and attempts to trap them are always futile. Raccoons should not be kept as pets, they are too wild, and even if they are tamed, it is difficult, even nearly impossible, to keep them tamed.
